Piedmont TEC’s library began with fewer than a dozen books. Today, the library collection has nearly 30,000 books and also provides students and employees with access to more than 268,000 electronic books and hundreds of thousands of articles. The first library was housed in a small room; the second library was approximately 7500 square feet with an additional 2500 square feet set aside for a media center, and the current 20,000 square-foot library opened in 1991. Today, learning resource centers at PTC’s county campuses also provide students with library services and assistance. Furthermore, technology has made it possible for PTC patrons to access library resources electronically day or night, whether on campus or at home.
As an integral part of the college, the PTC Library has grown and adapted to the changing needs of students and faculty. In the face of tremendous change, however, the library continues to serve PTC’s community, as well as the general public, as it has done since 1966. Some things never change!
